The Idea
The youth of India, representing one third of our population, constitutes a vital and vibrant human resource. Youth shapes its own destiny and carves the future of the society of which it is a part and hence is the source of energy for societal actions and transformations. Change in the socio-economic base and the political fabric of the Indian society in the process of globalization has affected, to a large extent, the youth force, specially in the rural area. In the process, creativity and potential of the youth too has suffered. At the same time, burdened with undue and heavy responsibilities, the youth is losing its youthfulness, creativity and potential.
Today's youth are disheartened, frustrated and directionless. There are only few to guide and streamline the energies of youth towards constructive processes.
Youth tend to dream, build high ideals, are attracted to adventures, innovations, experimentation and are not averse to taking risks .Their dreams, innovations and experimentation are not restricted to themselves but include the nation and the entire humanity. Need is to shape the dreams and provide opportunities to realize their dreams. They have a right, as well as an obligation, to participate actively in national development processes and in shaping the destiny of the nation and in turn shape their own destiny. The need, therefore, is to create increasing opportunities for the Youth to develop their inner self and their functional capabilities so as to make them economically productive and socially empowered. In this back-drop, Matribhumi, with the world view of local knowledge, culture & socially relevant traditions, experiential learnings of the region will inform all programmes of action enabling the youth to build and strengthen the society for greater equity and justice.
Matribhumi believes that youth have a special role to play in building the society and the nation. With their indomitable courage and dynamic creativity, they can overcome the existing challenges of the society. All they need is proper guidance and opportunities to develop and maximise their potentials, sharpen their talent, build their commitments and skills so that their service to the society are explored and utilized.
The Genesis
The desire to establish an institution-"MATRIBHUMI" is fueled by ours dream to build our own motherland (birth-place) through youth’s action. We, the few, who had an opportunity to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually (?) are lucky ones and we suppose, in turn it is our moral obligation/ duty to pay back through our services to the motherland. This is an initiative to bring together all the individuals having similar dreams, desires and commitments and make the world a better place live and respire in.
Matribhumi is a forum of all such individuals/ collectives who are troubled by the plight of their own people, are concerned about the pain and sufferings of their own people and wish to do something about it and invest in the development of his/her area & the people. Matribhumi is a forum of all those who are willing to take up the challenge of bringing change in the state of their own native place and the people. It is an organization that reflects their aspirations, desires and needs and gives them an opportunity to directly shape their own destiny. Whoever you are, if you have a passion for the wellbeing of the community of which you are a part, then you are a part of Matribhumi. You too can make a big difference to your community! You can join the group of committed youth who are trying hard to bring about positive changes in the society.
Matribhumi as an institution is registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882 to facilitate development and cultural activities among youth for bringing about positive changes in the lives of people. It gives special attention to the more disadvantaged youth of remote rural areas. In this backdrop, Matribhumi focuses on the "YOUTH" as a constituency of its work.
